Security Alumni Network

A new Alumni Network is being launched to connect Oxford Alumni working in (or interested in) the Cyber Security field – regardless of what you studied at Oxford. 

The kick-off event will be an online session with two Oxford speakers: Professor Ciaran Martin, CB (Blavatnik School of Government) former CEO of the National Cyber Security Centre and Graham Ingram (our university Chief Information Security Officer). The speakers will be discussing the current Cyber Security landscape and of particular relevance now, protecting Oxford’s leading medical research during the current pandemic.  

This online launch event will be on Wednesday 28^th April (16:30 UK / 20:30 Dubai / 22:00 Delhi / 11:30 US East Coast / 08:30 US West Coast). Alumni can register via Eventbrite or if they cannot attend but wish to be included in future conversations, they can sign up to our mailing list here. 

Fighting the cyber – national security policy and operations in the digital age 

Ciaran Martin (Hertford – 1993), first CEO of the UK National Cyber Security Centre and now Professor of Practice in the Management of Public Organisations, Blavatnik School of Government.

Ciaran led a fundamental shift in the UK’s approach to cyber security in the second half of the last decade. He successfully advocated for a wholesale change of approach towards a more interventionist posture and this was adopted by the Government in the 2015 National Security Strategy, leading to the creation of the NCSC in 2016 under his leadership. Over the same timeframe, the UK has moved from joint eighth to first in the International Telecommunications Union’s Global Cybersecurity Index and the NCSC model has been studied widely and adopted in countries like Canada and Australia.

Another day, another threat: Cyber Security in the University during a Pandemic
Graham Ingram is currently the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) for the University of Oxford with responsibility for both security operations and GRC (Governance, Risk & Compliance) activities throughout the collegiate university. Prior to this, he spent several years as the Chief of Staff for Deloitte Government and Public Sector (GPS) cyber team.
